LEH, Oct 30: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, today virtually inaugurated a series of infrastructure projects worth Rs 64 crores under various Special Development Package (SDP) schemes envisioned by the 6th LAHDC Leh.
An official statement said the projects include 35 new buildings such as staff quarters, medical blocks, and laboratories serving different departments.
Congratulating the 6th LAHDC Leh for successfully completing its tenure, the Lt Governor appreciated its efforts in implementing people-centric initiatives and accelerating development across the district.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the UT Administration and the Government of India towards Ladakh’s holistic growth, ensuring that benefits of every scheme reach the remotest villages.
The Lt Governor also highlighted the significant improvement in Ladakh’s development trajectory after becoming a Union Territory, crediting the dedication of Hill Councils and officials.
Stressing on tourism as a key driver of Ladakh’s economy, he urged for continued promotion of tourism initiatives, especially in border areas, to create more livelihood opportunities.
He also directed speedy handover of newly built staff quarters and called for reliable access to drinking water and electricity for employees serving in remote regions.
In his address, Chairman of LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, expressed gratitude to the Government of India for its continuous support, citing the success of schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) that have provided tap water to far-flung areas like Demchok.
Chief Secretary Dr Pawan Kotwal, in his remarks, noted the administrative and developmental progress achieved in the post-UT phase, crediting the joint efforts of the Administration and Hill Councils in transforming Ladakh.
Senior officers, Executive Councillors, and Councillors of LAHDC Leh were present during the event.
