MOHALI, Oct 30: Doctors at Max Super Speciality Hospital today successfully carried out a complex bilateral total knee replacement surgery on a 62-year-old woman from Punjab, offering her a new lease of life after years of debilitating pain due to advanced osteoarthritis.
The surgery was performed by Dr Ajay Bhambri, Director, Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement at Max Mohali, along with his skilled team.
Rajinder Kaur, the patient, had been suffering from severe knee pain and stiffness for nearly a decade.
Her mobility had deteriorated to the point that she required constant assistance to walk and perform routine activities. Despite undergoing various treatments and physiotherapy, her condition continued to worsen.
Upon evaluation at Max Hospital, doctors diagnosed advanced osteoarthritis in both knee joints with major deformity and severely restricted movement.
Considering the complexity of her condition, a simultaneous bilateral total knee replacement was planned and executed.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bhambri said, “This was a particularly challenging case due to the severity of osteoarthritis and stiffness in both knees. Our goal was not only to replace the joints but to help her regain her independence and confidence. We are pleased to share that she could stand and walk with assistance the very next day.”
The patient showed exceptional recovery and was discharged within two days of surgery, regaining independent mobility shortly after.
This achievement reinforces Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali’s commitment to delivering advanced orthopaedic and joint replacement care. With state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge technology and a team of expert specialists, the hospital continues to set new standards in restoring mobility and improving patient outcomes across Punjab and the Tricity region.
