NC-Govt promoting corruption, neglecting people: Khatana

JAMMU, Oct 30: Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha (RS) Member, Ghulam Ali Khatana has strongly criticized the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference (NC) Government in Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that it has revived the old traditional corrupt practices across key departments such as Transport, Mining and allied sectors.
In a statement issued today, Khatana said that during his regular public meetings and interactions every third deputation brings complaints of harassment by Government agencies. He alleged that the Omar-led Government lacks both the will and mechanism to ensure transparency resulting in widespread corruption, arbitrary seizures of vehicles and exploitation of the poor and unemployed youth.
“This Government has completely abandoned the common masses. The ministers are living in air-conditioned offices disconnected from the realities on the ground,” Khatana stated.
He cited several cases where unemployed youth, after mortgaging properties or arranging bank loans to buy small dumpers and commercial vehicles, face harassment from authorities. When these youth approach stone crusher owners to purchase construction material, they are often denied genuine sale receipts or bills, leading to serious complications during transport inspections and subsequent seizure of vehicles.
“This nexus between certain officials and material suppliers encourages corruption, destroys the livelihood of unemployed youth and leads to bank NPAs. The guarantors of these loans are also forced to bear deductions pushing the youth into depression and even drug addiction,” Khatana warned.
Highlighting the worsening condition of public services, the MP said that basic transport facilities have become inaccessible. He pointed out that an e-auto driver cannot even carry a patient from remote areas like Sainik Colony to GMC Jammu or SMGS Hospital due to administrative restrictions. Similarly, a passenger traveling from Talab Tillo must hire two separate autos to reach Jammu Railway Station – a clear reflection, he said, of the Government’s apathy and inefficiency.
“The Omar-led Government is completely missing from the scene of people’s miseries. It has failed to provide relief, employment opportunities or transparency in governance,” Khatana asserted.
He urged the administration to take immediate corrective steps to end corruption and restore accountability, transparency and faith in governance across Jammu and Kashmir.
