JAMMU, Nov 12: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson and former vice-chairman Balbir Ram Rattan today questioned the National Conference (NC) Government over its inaction in filling thousands of vacant posts in Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued, Balbir Ram Rattan said that despite being in power for a year, the NC Government has failed to take any concrete steps to address the acute shortage of staff in medical institutions.
He pointed out that more than 5,000 sanctioned posts are lying vacant in various GMCs, which has severely affected both patient care and the quality of medical education.
“From Jammu to Baramulla, all Government Medical Colleges are functioning at almost half of their sanctioned capacity,” said Balbir, adding that every college faces an acute shortage of faculty, resident doctors, paramedical staff, nurses, technical and supporting employees.
“As a result, patients are not getting timely and adequate treatment, while the workload on the existing staff has multiplied several times,” he remarked.
Balbir further appealed to the administration to take up the issue in mission mode and expedite the recruitment process so that people can get much-needed relief and hospitals can function normally.
