Police host leadership seminar to build capacity among young officers

JAMMU, Nov 14: The Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu (ZPHQ) today organised a one-day vertical interaction seminar at the Police Auditorium to help young officers understand modern policing challenges and strengthen their leadership skills.
The programme was organised in line with the DGsP/IGsP Conference 2024, which emphasises involving young officers in senior-level policy discussions to prepare them for future responsibilities.
The seminar began with a welcome address by Director Police Telecom Jatinder Singh Johar, who highlighted the key takeaways from the national DGsP/IGsP conference and stressed the importance of allowing young officers to participate in policy-level conversations.
Senior officers, including the DGP J&K, IGPs of various wings, DIGs, district SSsP and officers from different units, attended the event, giving young participants an opportunity to engage with the top leadership.
Throughout the day, officers made detailed presentations on issues directly impacting policing in Jammu Zone.
DIG DKR Range discussed the Police Technology Mission and encouraged officers to adopt AI-based surveillance, predictive policing tools and digital evidence systems.
He stressed that technology-led policing at the field level is essential for improving efficiency.
SSP Udhampur spoke about the growing drug menace, explaining trafficking routes, financing patterns and cross-border links.
He emphasised the need for coordinated action, stronger community support and improved prosecution to curb the problem effectively.
SSP Poonch briefed officers on modern crowd-control methods, focusing on calibrated force, non-lethal options and communication-based de-escalation to maintain discipline during public order duties.
IGP Jammu BS Tuti highlighted the transition to data-driven policing, encouraging officers to use analytical tools, real-time dashboards and structured decision-making processes for better operational outcomes.
Addressing the seminar as Chief Guest, DGP J&K Nalin Prabhat underlined the importance of disciplined field conduct, professional weapon handling and constant preparedness.
He said the police leadership of tomorrow will be defined by technology adoption, data-based strategies and strong training standards.
He urged young officers to lead by example and stay committed to professional growth.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by DIG JSK Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, who appreciated the guidance of senior officers and the enthusiastic participation of young officers.
