JAMMU, Nov 15: Jammu and Kashmir Police have solved the case of a man found burning near the Ring Road in the Kotli Mian Fateh area, leading to the arrest of three employees of the Irrigation Department.
The incident, reported on November 10, involved 55-year-old Irrigation Department employee Puran Chand of RS Pura, who died at Government Medical College Jammu due to severe burn injuries.
After receiving information, police rushed to the spot and with the help of locals, controlled the fire before shifting Puran Chand to a hospital.
Accordingly, a case FIR number 109/2025 was registered at Police Station Miran Sahib, and a detailed investigation was launched.
During the course of investigation, a police official said, it came to the fore that the deceased employee of the Irrigation Department, working in the Tube-Well Irrigation section, was facing mental stress related to his workplace.
He said a team led by SHO Miran Sahib examined all the angles of the case. The FSL team was called to collect the scientific evidence, while CCTV footage was obtained from the route taken by the deceased.
The footage showed him stopping at the RG Filling Station, Thikrian, where he filled petrol in a plastic container before moving towards Miran Sahib, said the police official.
He said on the basis of circumstantial, technical and scientific evidence collected by the police so far—including viral videos, CCTV footage and witness statements—it emerged that deceased took the extreme step due to alleged mental harassment due to withholding of his salary for the past few months.
During the investigation, he said, police arrested three employees of the Irrigation Department, identified as Surjeet Kumar, incharge Ziladar; Girdhari Lal, Amin; and Ram Murti alias Sani, incharge Ziladar, all posted in the RS Pura Sub Division.
Meanwhile, further investigation is underway to establish more facts and determine responsibility in the case.
