JAMMU, Nov 16: Bharatiya Janata Party Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Gaurav Gupta has raised serious concern over what he called a “dangerous dual challenge” facing the country-educated professional joining terror modules and an organised digital campaign attempting to shield them through “misleading narratives.”
Gupta said that the recent arrests in Delhi, Gujarat and other states, involving doctors, engineers, researchers and other professionals, show that “white-collar radicalisation is now a serious and immediate reality.”
What has troubled him more, he added, is the role of some social media influencers who, instead of condemning terror activities, “rush to claim that a particular community is being targeted.”
He said this narrative is deeply divisive and ignores the fact that the same community has also suffered heavily due to terrorism over the years.
Many members of that community, he noted, have served in the armed forces and laid down their lives for the nation.
Gupta accused certain influencers of acting as “narrative warriors for extremist elements” by questioning investigations, spreading misinformation and creating emotional propaganda to generate sympathy for radicalised individuals.
“This propaganda machine activates instantly after every major security breakthrough,” he said. “It creates confusion, raises false doubts and tries to dilute the seriousness of terror plots.”
He warned that such actions weaken public trust, mislead young people and indirectly help elements trying to destabilise the country.
At a time when innocent people have been killed and security forces have prevented major attacks, he said, the focus should be on unity and national resolve, not online sensationalism.
Reaffirming faith in India’s security agencies, Gupta said several major incidents have been prevented due to their dedication.
He appealed to citizens, especially youth, to verify facts and stay alert to digital attempts that create sympathy for extremist elements.
“The BJP is committed to defeating extremism in all its forms, whether on the ground or online,” he said. “National security will not be compromised.”
