JAMMU, Nov 17: Anekha Devi from Machhedi village in Kathua district created history with a sensational performance in the Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind 2025, playing a match-winning innings against Pakistan. The 20-year-old cricketer scored a blistering 64 runs off just 34 balls, hitting seven boundaries and maintaining an impressive strike rate of 188. Her extraordinary performance earned her the Player of the Match award and cemented her status as a key “trump card” of the Indian Women’s Blind Cricket Team.
Anekha is a proud member of the Cricket Association for the Blind Jammu & Kashmir (CAB-J&K). However, due to the absence of a women’s blind cricket team in J&K, she represents the Cricket Association for the Blind Delhi (CAB-Delhi) in national competitions. Both CAB-J&K and CAB-Delhi are affiliated with the Cricket Association for the Blind (CABI), India.
Her remarkable innings propelled India to the semi-finals of the tournament, keeping the team in strong contention for the title. CAB-J&K General Secretary Ajay Kumar lauded her talent, dedication, and perseverance, calling it a proud moment for the Union Territory. He extended heartfelt congratulations to Anekha and the Indian Women’s Blind Cricket Team, wishing them success in the semi-finals and hoping they bring home the inaugural Women’s T20 Blind Cricket World Cup.
Pertinently, India defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets in a high-voltage Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind clash at the Katunayake BOI Grounds in Colombo. India achieved the target of 136 for 2 in just 10 overs, sealing their fifth straight win of the tournament.
