JAMMU, Nov 19: Jammu and Kashmir produced one of their most commanding performances in recent Ranji Trophy history, outclassing Hyderabad by a massive 281-run margin in the Elite Group-D encounter at the JKCA Hostel Ground, here today. The victory, built on exceptional individual brilliance and disciplined teamwork, further cemented J&K’s status as a formidable force this season.
Resuming from an overnight 169/7, Hyderabad folded for 190 runs, unable to withstand the relentless assault led by left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq, who delivered a sensational match-winning spell. Abid emerged as the undisputed wrecker-in-chief, claiming 7 wickets for 68 runs in 18.5 overs, dismantling Hyderabad’s hopes of a fightback. Sahil Lotra and Aquib Nabi provided crucial support, taking two and one wicket respectively. Tanmay Aggarwal top-scored for Hyderabad with 47 but no other batter made a significant contribution.
The foundation of J&K’s dominance was laid earlier through a batting masterclass by Abdul Samad, who hammered a spectacular 125 runs, laced with 10 boundaries and 6 towering sixes. His knock earned him the Player of the Match award. Samad, along with the composed Kanhaiya Wadhawan, stitched together a vital partnership that propelled J&K to a commanding position.
In the first innings, bowlers Sunil Kumar and Aquib Nabi combined pace, accuracy and aggression to rattle Hyderabad early, ensuring J&K maintained control throughout the match. In the second innings, alongside Abid’s demolition job, Sahil Lotra bowled a crucial pressure-building spell, leaving Hyderabad with no avenue for recovery.
Congratulating the team, Brig Anil Gupta, Member Administration JKCA, praised the players for their teamwork and consistent performances, saying the victory underscored J&K’s rise as serious title contenders this season. Head Coach Ajay Sharma, his support staff and the Senior Selectors were also lauded for guiding the team’s impressive campaign so far.
