JAMMU, Nov 27: City Ration Dealers Association here today staged a protest demonstration demanding supply of essential commodities under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The protest was led by Surinder Singh, Association president who said that ration dealers in J&K receive only ration whereas ration dealers in several other States are provided not only regular ration but also essential commodities like sugar, pulses, edible oil and other household necessities at government approved rates enabling wider distribution to beneficiaries.
He said that in the absence of these essential commodities in our State’s allocation, the public is compelled to purchase these commodities from open market where prices are very high and this increases financial burden on the people.
The Association leaders urged the Public Distribution Department to extend the provision of essential commodities like other States to the ration dealers of J&K to strengthen the functioning of the PDS.
