Srinagar pushes BSF to edge in UT Sr Basketball opener

JAMMU, Nov 28: Srinagar came remarkably close to causing an upset as they challenged BSF Jammu till the final whistle before narrowly losing by 37–35 in the opening encounter of the Senior UT Basketball Championship.
The Tournament is being conducted by the J&K Basketball Association (JKBA) under the banner of the J&K Sports Council at MA Stadium, Jammu.
A total of 23 teams—including BSF, J&K Police, STC and IIT Jammu—along with squads from 12 districts are vying for top honours in both Men’s and Women’s categories, setting the stage for an intense multi-day competition.
In the remaining fixtures of the day, STC Jammu registered a commanding 45–14 win over Ganderbal, while J&K Police defeated Reasi 57–43 in a spirited contest. Pulwama outperformed Kathua 67–39, and Udhampur secured a solid 50–35 victory against BSF Kashmir, adding further momentum to the championship’s opening round.
All matches were supervised by an experienced panel of BFI and JKBA referees, which included Manoj Kumar, Harpreet Singh, Vaneet Pangotra, Rajesh Bandral, Mir Mursaleen, Jaskirat Singh and Hritik Khullar.
Prominent personalities present during the proceedings featured Dr Vikram Handa, president JKBA; Ashok Singh Jamwal, senior vice president; Aman Sharma, general secretary; Sushma Jamwal, chief basketball coach JKSC; Shaktish Chopra, retired manager JKSC; Arshi Nad, Manager, Indoor Complex; along with Basketball coaches Sachin Dogra and Rohan Kundal and office bearers from various district associations.
