Interacting with media persons at the project site on Saturday, he expressed gratitude to the Ladakhi community and the Ladakh administration for their exceptional support in making the project a success.
The power station generates 45 megawatts of electricity when all three turbines are operational, each with a capacity of 15 megawatts. The project was conceived in 2001, approved in 2005, and construction began in September 2006. All three units were officially commissioned in August 2014.
Sanjai Kumar Rai highlighted the various benefits of NHPC’s hydroelectric projects in the region. He also spoke about the CSR activities undertaken by NHPC in several villages across Ladakh, including a Painting Competition on Energy Conservation-2025 organised by Nimoo Bazgo Power Station to encourage local students and help them qualify for the National Level Competition scheduled for December 2025.
Under CSR, NHPC has facilitated apricot processing units, organised tuition classes in villages, provided an ambulance to Mahabodhi Hospital, and constructed libraries, along with supporting various other educational and community-oriented initiatives.
Rai stated that the commissioning of Nimoo Bazgo Power Station has shifted the region from diesel-based electricity to green hydropower, reducing both pollution and dependency on costly diesel generators. He added that the power station has provided employment to 79 local workers and has engaged 17 vehicles owned by local residents.
