JAMMU, Dec 1: BJP J&K spokesperson and convener of International Affairs, Gaurav Gupta, launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led INDIA bloc Alliance after National Conference MP Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan made what he termed a revealing statement in the Winter Session of the Parliament.
MP Ramzan had asserted that the 2024 Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections were conducted freely and fairly, leading to a two-thirds majority for the NC–Congress alliance and the formation of the Government under Omar Abdullah. Gupta said this acknowledgement by an NC MP exposes a major contradiction in the Congress narrative.
Gaurav Gupta questioned how Congress leaders continue to allege that elections across India are manipulated or not free and fair, while in J&K they themselves gained a decisive mandate through the same democratic process. He said that MP Ramzan’s parliamentary remarks “stunned” the opposition and served as a reality check for parties that repeatedly question the integrity of the Election Commission and accuse the BJP of influencing electoral outcomes.
Gupta further intensified his criticism by pointing out that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are already facing FIRs in the National Herald case, yet continue to level what he called baseless allegations regarding election fairness. He argued that Ramzan’s statement exposes the opposition’s “political theatrics” and highlights the “double standards” of parties that attack democratic institutions for political convenience while simultaneously benefitting from the same system.
Calling Ramzan’s remarks both revealing and politically significant, Gupta said the contradiction between Congress’ national accusations and its comfortable majority in J&K clearly undermines the credibility of their claims. He added that Congress has consistently failed to match the leadership and governance model of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whom India has seen strengthened institutions, transparent elections, and transformative development.
