POONCH, Dec 1: Ateeqa Jan, former DDC Chairperson, Poonch, wife of former MLA, Late G M Jan and mother of sitting NC MLA from Poonch/Haveli, Ajaz Jan passed away last night.
She was 72 and is survived by two sons- MLA Ajaz Jan and Block Medical Officer Mandi, Rayaz Jan, and a daughter- Musarrat Jan, wife of District Judge- Adnan Sayeed.
Family sources said that Ateeqa was not keeping well for the past few weeks and was admitted to a hospital in Jammu. She also remained under treatment in DMC, Ludhiana for some days. She took her last breath in the Jammu hospital at around 9.45 pm on Sunday.
Her dead body was brought to Poonch late last night. The last rites were performed at Poonch town today, where thousands of people, including senior officials from district administration, offered funeral prayer at Eid Gah, Poonch at around 2:30 PM. She was buried in a graveyard near her house in Poonch beside the grave of her Late husband, former MLA Poonch- Ghulam Mohd Jan.
Pertinent to mention that Ateeqa Jan was sitting DDC Member from Mandi and her term was going to end on January 26, 2026.
