Police rescues 14 bovines, seizes bus, TATA 407 used for smuggling of animals

SAMBA, Dec 2: Samba police has foiled two bovine smuggling attempts in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal and rescued 14 bovines from the clutches of bovine smugglers. The vehicles Tata- 407 and a passenger bus have been seized which were being used by bovine smugglers for illegal transportation of milch animals.
Police said acting on information received from reliable sources, a team of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal has intercepted a passenger bus bearing Registration Number JK02CN-9009 near FCI Chowk Suandha Jatwal and during checking, six bovines were found inside the bus which were being transported illegally in a cruel manner.
Police has rescued the bovines and shifted them to a safer place. Due to the ongoing efforts of Samba police to combat bovine smuggling in the district, bovine smugglers are now resorting to new modus operandi, using passenger bus this time in an attempt to evade detection.
A case FIR No.113/2025 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation started.
In another incident, a police team of Police Station Ghagwal while performing vehicle checking duty at naka NHW Tapyal, signaled to stop a Tata-407 bearing Registration Number JK02CS-2696 for checking. But the driver of the vehicle accelerated the speed and hit the vehicle with naka road barrier causing damage to it. The alert cops pursued and intercepted the vehicle near Jatwal.
During checking, eight bovines were found inside the vehicle which were tied in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally without any valid permission.
A case FIR No. 112/2025 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act, 3 PDPP Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation started.
The seizure was made under the supervision of SSP Samba Virinder Manhas.
