12 persons arrested for illegal mining

SRINAGAR, Dec 3: Police in Budgam arrested 12 persons and seized several vehicles in November as part of an intensified crackdown on illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals.
The action, officials said, was carried out in coordination with the Mining Department.
Teams from various Police Stations and Police Posts, under the supervision of senior officers, conducted sustained operations in Khansahib, Suranhall Batpora, Beerwah, Narbal, Magam, Hardupanzo, Budgam, Charar-i-Sharief, Waterhail, and Chadoora.
“During these operations, 12 individuals involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals were arrested on the spot, and six FIRs were registered,” police said.
A total of 39 vehicles used for illegal mining-11 tippers/ dumpers, 21 tractors, six JCBs, and one L&T machine-were seized, and heavy fines were imposed on the violators, according to police.
