REASI, Dec 18: A deeply emotional moment unfolded during a Public Darbar held in the remote village of Chan–Kanthi in Reasi Assembly Constituency, when a woman broke down while highlighting the stark ground realities still faced by residents in far-flung areas.
The public outreach programme was organised by local MLA Kuldeep Raj Dubey to hear public grievances and assess developmental issues at the grassroots level.

During the interaction, a village woman, identified as Renku Devi, broke down in tears as she narrated the daily hardships faced by the villagers due to the absence of a proper road even decades after Independence.
Addressing the MLA and senior officials present at the Darbar, Renku Devi said the lack of road connectivity has made life extremely difficult, particularly for women, children and the elderly. She pointed out that the situation becomes alarming during the rainy season when muddy and slippery pathways make movement almost impossible. “Carrying sick patients to the hospital turns into a battle for survival,” she said, adding that villagers are often forced to carry patients on foot or makeshift stretchers over long distances, risking their lives.
She alleged that not even a single Government welfare scheme was implemented in the village while the officers concerned were providing only lip service to the villagers in need. She further narrated that Government Higher Secondary Schools Bhallar was located in a location where students face threat to their lives because of shooting stones.
Her emotional appeal moved many present at the Darbar, bringing to the fore the continued neglect of basic infrastructure in the area. Several other villagers echoed similar concerns, stating that poor connectivity has also hampered access to education, healthcare and essential services.
Expressing disappointment over the alleged insensitive attitude of the Government officials and elected representatives, Renku Devi said that in future she would not plead before anyone except Prime Minister Narendra Modi for redressal of their general grievances.
