SAMBA, Dec 20: To curb traffic violations and ease congestion on the National Highway, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) today conducted a special enforcement drive across different locations in Samba district.
The action followed complaints about frequent violations leading to traffic jams.
A statement said the drive was carried out under the supervision of ARTO Samba, Neeraj Sharma, with Motor Vehicles Department, conducting interception checks at multiple points.
During the operation, 192 vehicles were stopped and examined for compliance with traffic rules, it said, adding that 24 e-challans were issued on the spot and three driving licences were also suspended for serious violations.
Further, the Motor Vehicles Department expects to collect around Rs 73, 500 as penalty from the challans issued.
Meanwhile, transporters have been warned to strictly follow the traffic regulations.
“Repeated violations would invite stringent action, including suspension or cancellation of driving licences, registration certificates and route permits,” warned the Motor Vehicles Department.
