KATRA, Dec 27: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH), Katra, has reinforced its position as a leading centre for advanced orthopaedic care in Jammu and Kashmir, with Senior Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement Surgeon Dr Vikas Padha completing a remarkable milestone of 250 joint replacement surgeries in the calendar year 2025.
In 2023, Dr Padha had performed around 100 joint replacement surgeries. The increase to 250 arthroplasty procedures in 2025 – comprising nearly 200 total knee replacements and about 50 hip replacements – represents a growth of nearly 150 per cent. This surge reflects increasing public trust.
Hospital officials said the milestone highlights SMVD Narayana Hospital’s success in curbing medical migration by delivering world-class clinical outcomes locally. On December 23, he successfully conducted nine complex joint replacement surgeries in a single day, underscoring both clinical expertise and operational efficiency.
The accomplishment has been made possible through a strong medical ecosystem at SMVDNSH, which includes state-of-the-art modular operation theatres, advanced infection control measures and comprehensive ICU support. A dedicated team of anaesthetists, nursing staff and technicians works round the clock to ensure patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.
Established by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, the Hospital is regarded as a major healthcare initiative for the people of J&K. The facility effectively implements Government schemes such as Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY), enabling eligible patients to avail advanced orthopaedic procedures through cashless treatment.
Facility Director Dr M M Mathavan said the milestone reflects the Hospital’s core mission of serving humanity. He stated that Dr Padha’s achievement is not merely a numerical target but a testament to the quality of care and the successful healthcare model envisioned by the Shrine Board.
Beyond surgeries, Dr Padha also conducts regular outreach OPDs in Jammu city and districts including Billawar, Kathua and Rajouri.
