PDP opened doors for BJP in J&K: Tanvir Sadiq

SRINAGAR, Jan 1: National Conference MLA from Zadibal and Party’s Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq today said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was responsible for paving the way for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s agenda in Jammu and Kashmir by forming an alliance after the 2014 elections.
He said the PDP’s decision caused lasting political and economic damage to the region.
Addressing a gathering at Jogilanker, Rainawari, after laying the foundation stone of a long-pending Community Hall, Tanvir said the PDP could never escape its role in weakening Jammu and Kashmir’s political and constitutional position.
He said the party had campaigned against the BJP but later joined hands with it, a move he termed as a “betrayal” of public trust.
Tanvir said the developments of 2019, including the loss of special status and statehood, would not have happened without the PDP-BJP alliance.
He alleged that major policy decisions like the implementation of GST and SARFAESI were pushed during the PDP-BJP Government, which, according to him, harmed the region from within.
He also accused the PDP of never apologising to the people for these decisions.
Reiterating the National Conference’s stand, Tanvir said his party chose principles over power and refused to compromise on the dignity of the people.
He also accused the PDP, Apni Party, People’s Conference and some independents of indirectly helping the BJP by targeting the National Conference instead of confronting the BJP directly.
Earlier, Tanvir laid the foundation stone of a Community Hall at Jogilanker, Rainawari, saying the project would address a long-standing demand of local residents and provide space for social and community activities in the area.
