UT-Level, District Committees formed for Pulses Mission

JAMMU, Jan 2: Government of Jammu and Kashmir has constituted a Union Territory Level Steering Committee on Pulses (UT-SCP) and District Steering Committees on Pulses (DSCPs) to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses across the Union Territory.
As per the Government order issued today by the General Administration Department, the Union Territory Level Steering Committee on Pulses will be chaired by the Administrative Secretary, Agriculture Production Department. The committee will have as its members the Administrative Secretary, Finance Department; Administrative Secretary, Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs; and Administrative Secretary, Cooperative Department.
The Vice Chancellors of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu and SKUAST Kashmir, and Director of Agriculture Kashmir will also be members of the UT-Level Committee. Further, State Mission Director (Pulses Mission)- Director Agriculture Jammu will act as member secretary. The Chief General Manager of NABARD and the Convenor of the UT Level Bankers Committee will also form part of the committee.
The UT-Level Steering Committee will additionally include representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India. Two representatives from Farmer Producer Organizations, cooperatives or village-level collectives, as well as two representatives from the pulses or seed production industry, will also be part of the committee. The industry representatives will be nominated by the Chairperson. He has also been authorized to nominate additional officials or persons, if required.
At the district level, District Steering Committees on Pulses will be constituted under the chairmanship of the respective Deputy Commissioners. These committees will include the Chief Agriculture Officer as member secretary, and Head of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lead Bank Officer, District Development Manager of NABARD, nominated progressive farmers and representatives from Self Help Groups, Farmer Producer Organisations, Farmer Interest Groups and Primary Agricultural Credit Societies, as members. Deputy Commissioners may nominate additional members, as considered necessary.
