SRINAGAR, Jan 4: A one-month-old baby died at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Uri today, triggering allegations of medical negligence by the family.
The infant, identified as Asger Ali, son of Mehboob Mughal of Bandi Uri, as per the family, was brought to the hospital in the morning in a “serious condition.”
Family members alleged that the child was not adequately examined and that doctors “failed” to provide timely medical intervention.
They claimed the family was advised to approach a private healthcare facility, causing a delay that ultimately led to the infant’s death.
Hospital authorities, however, rejected the allegations.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Uri said the child was received in a highly critical state and was attended to in accordance with medical guidelines.
He said doctors assessed the infant and immediately referred the case to Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla for specialised care.
According to the BMO, the family did not proceed to the referred Government hospital and instead chose to consult a private paediatrician.
Officials also said an inquiry committee has been set up to examine the incident and determine the facts surrounding the death.
