CM to present budget on Feb 6

JAMMU, Jan 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds charge of the Finance Department, will present Jammu & Kashmir’s second budget on February 6 in the Legislative Assembly.
The budget session calendar was issued today by Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.

The fifth session of the Assembly, spread over a three-month period, will begin with an address by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on February 2.
This will be the second budget of the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference Government after assuming office on October 16, 2024, ending nearly six years of Central rule.
The budget session will have a total of 22 sittings-15 in the first half and seven in the second part after break.
Last year, Omar presented budget for the financial year of 2025-26 on March 7. This year, however, the session has been advanced by a month because of holy month of Ramzan.
According to the tentative calendar issued this evening, the session will begin on February 2 with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s address to the House, which will be his third since the formation of the elected Government headed by Omar Abdullah in October 2024.
After LG’s address, the Assembly Secretariat has reserved three days for discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the address, scheduled for February 3, 4 and 5, with the Chief Minister replying to the debate on February 5.
The annual financial statement for 2026-27 (the budget) and supplementary statement of expenditure for 2025-26 will be presented in the House by the Chief Minister on February 6.
The general discussion on budget will take place on February 7, 9 and 10, followed by the CM’s reply.
As per tentative calendar, seven days have been earmarked for demand of grants between February 11 and 19, after which the Assembly will go into recess for one month and eight days.
The session will resume on March 27 when the budget will be taken up for passing in the form of Appropriation bills.
As per calendar, March 28 has been reserved for Government business, March 30 and April 1 for Private Member Bills, March 31 and April 2 for Private Member Resolutions, and April 4 again for Government business.
