Police crack mobile theft, online cheating case; two held

JAMMU, Jan 15: Jammu and Kashmir Police in City area here have cracked a major theft and online cheating case involving the theft of a mobile phone and fraudulent transfer of about Rs 1 lakh.
A police official said the case originated from a zero FIR received on December 23, 2025 from Police Station Ashmuqam, in which the complainant reported that his mobile phone was stolen from the Gummat area of Jammu and money was illegally transported online from his account using the stolen phone.
He said during investigation, police found that the accused transferred Rs 40000 each in two transactions to unknown persons and also purchased a Vivo mobile phone worth Rs 21000 using the cheated money.
Acting on the technical evidence, he said, a team of Police Station City, led by SHO concerned, Inspector Shakti Devi, assisted by PSIs Imran Hameed and Kumar Vishesh, conducted raids at Belicharana, Jewel, and Gummat areas.
During raids, two accused individuals, identified as Ibrahim Hussain Rather of Pattan, Baramulla and Irshad Ahmed Dar of Kunzer, Baramulla, were arrested and one mobile handset purchased from the cheated amount was recovered from their possession, the police official said.
Meanwhile, further investigation in the case is in progress, he said.
