JAMMU, Jan 15: A thrilling T-10 Cosco Cricket tournament began under floodlights at Jammu’s Green Field Cricket Ground today, featuring teams from the city’s trade and shopkeepers’ groups. The event, held under the banner “My Youth My Pride”, is organized by the Jammu Kashmir Veterans Sports Club with support from the J&K Sports Council. J&K Sports Council Secretary Nuzhat Gull attended as chief guest, while Arun Gupta, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu, was the guest of honour.
Eight teams are competing in a Super Knockout format, providing traders and shopkeepers an opportunity to relax, engage in friendly competition, and promote fitness. Matches are played under lights, attracting evening crowds and encouraging families to enjoy cricket in a lively atmosphere.
In the opening clash, Red Wings defeated Janta Warriors by six wickets. Janta Warriors struggled to 77 for seven in ten overs, with Roshan Din top-scoring 23*. Red Wings, despite losing two early wickets, chased the target with ease, thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 27 off nine balls and steady finishing by Nikhil Slathia and Saqii, reaching 80 for four in 9.5 overs. The win gave Red Wings a confident start, while Janta Warriors look to regroup for their next match.
