Raman Suri slams power cuts

JAMMU, Jan 16: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri has appealed to the J&K Government to immediately regulate and streamline power supply in a manner that ensures uninterrupted electricity to the people, especially during the ongoing harsh Winter conditions.
He also asked the Government to also make arrangements for poor and helpless who are sleeping on roads in these harsh Winter conditions.
Raman Suri said that the Meteorological Department has already predicted an extremely severe Winter and in such circumstances, it becomes the bounden duty of the Government to act with sensitivity, preparedness and urgency. He expressed deep concern over the plight of poor, beggars and mentally challenged persons who are being forced to sleep on roads, pavements and in makeshift arrangements, calling the situation “shocking, inhuman and unacceptable.”
He said that despite the existence of Rain-Baseras, particularly at the Bagh-e-Bahu area, many needy people are either unable to reach these facilities or are not being properly relocated and accommodated. “The purpose of Rain-Baseras stands defeated if the most vulnerable sections of society are left to fend for themselves in biting cold,” Suri said.
