Govt forms committee to examine fee structure of private schools

JAMMU, Jan 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a committee to examine the issues related to fees charged by the private schools, including the cost of books, uniforms, shoes and other items provided to the students.
As per an order, the committee will be headed by Secretary, JKBOSE, with Additional Secretary to the Government, School Education Department and Administrative Officer, FFRC, JK UT as Members and Joint Director (Central) Kashmir, School Education Department as Member Secretary.
The committee has been tasked to examine as to whether the fees charged by the private schools as well as the costs of books, uniforms, shoes etc. provided by these schools to students are based on certain verifiable matrices and has a sound justifiable basis.
Further, the committee shall also examine and verify the circumstances and legal basis under which the Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) has mandated payment of transportation fees during the winter vacation in the Kashmir Division.
The committee has been given 30 days to submit a detailed report to the Administrative Department regarding the examination of fee structure, including justification, statutory backing and past practice.
