SKUAST-J Pensioners Welfare Forum highlights issues, demands

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 20: A general body meeting of the SKUAST-J Pensioners Welfare Forum was held here today under the chairmanship of its President, Prof Amarjeet Singh Bali for deliberating upon several important issues concerning the welfare of pensioners.
During the meeting, serious concerns were raised over delayed disbursement of pensions. Addressing the gathering, Dr R K Arora, Secretary of the Forum, pointed out that despite clear directions from the Vice-Chancellor to the Comptroller to expedite the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with J&K Bank, on the analogy of SKUAST-Kashmir, for streamlining pension payments, the Accounts Section of SKUAST-J has remained silent on the matter.
Another important issue highlighted was the non-inclusion of SKUAST-J pensioners in the extension of CGHS facilities, as the name of SKUAST-J does not figure on the CGHS portal. The members urged the University authorities to take immediate steps to resolve this long-pending issue in the interest of retired employees.
The Forum also strongly demanded the provision of suitable office space for the Pensioners Welfare Forum within the University premises at the Railway Road Complex being centrally located for easy access, besides the issuance of Identity Cards to all SKUAST-J pensioners to facilitate easy identification. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof V S Verma, Joint Secretary of the Forum.
