JAMMU, Jan 27: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch (CB) Jammu has registered a formal case in connection with an alleged overseas employment fraud involving false promises of arranging a work visa and job in Russia.
Officials said a written complaint was lodged by a Jammu resident alleging that the accused, Vishal Singh alias Vishal Manhas of House number 812, Suryavanshi Nagar, Muthi, Jammu, dishonestly induced him on the pretext of arranging overseas employment.
According to them, the complainant alleged that the accused assured him of a work visa and job in Russia and, on these assurances, collected a substantial amount of money.
During verification, officials said, it was found that the complainant paid a total amount of Rs 10, 05, 000 to the accused.
Of this, Rs 7, 86, 500 was transferred into the personal bank account of the accused, Rs 49, 999 was paid to Maarg Group Agency, Mohali, Chandigarh, while the remaining amount was paid in cash, they said.
Officials said the complainant further alleged that the accused did not possess any valid authorization or licence for overseas recruitment.
“Instead of arranging a work visa, the accused allegedly obtained only a tourist e-visa and sent the complainant first to Dubai and later to Russia, where he stayed for about two months during 2025. No employment was arranged during this period,” they said.
Despite repeated requests, they said, the accused allegedly failed to refund the money and also threatened the complainant with false implication.
A preliminary enquiry conducted by SCW established that the accused had adopted fraudulent means and misrepresented facts with dishonest intention from the very beginning, they said.
On the basis of the enquiry, a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered at Police Station SCW, Crime Branch Jammu, officials said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
