JAMMU, Jan 28: The Jagti township, housing nearly 15,000 displaced Kashmiri Pandits, is facing a severe drinking water crisis due to damaged distribution pipes. The water supply has been disrupted for over one week, causing acute hardships to residents, said BJP Mandal president PL Pandita and his team and Sunil Pandita president Jagti Welfare Front in their separate statements.
The existing pumping station faces prolonged shutdowns during Winters due to over all power curtailments owing to which motors get overheated and staff is left with no option but to shutdown the machinery, they said.
Though the authorities have spent huge amount to construct bore wells in the camp but the project has not seen light of the day till date, they added.
Pandita said residents are facing severe water shortages, with some areas going without water for days together. Residents are struggling to access basic amenities including water. Therefore, authorities are urged to look into the matter and ensure restoration of water supply at earliest in Jagti camp, he added.
