NHPC organises awareness programme on Data Privacy Day 2026

JAMMU, Jan 30: With the aim of promoting awareness about the importance of data protection and privacy, an awareness programme on Data Privacy Day 2026, organised by NHPC Limited was held here today
The programme was organized in collaboration with the Data Security Council of India (DSCI).
Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC, Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), Mahesh Kumar Sharma, Director (Finance) and Santosh Kumar, CVO along with senior officials were present during the event.
Addressing the gathering, Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC emphasized that as a Public Sector Undertaking, NHPC handles sensitive data related to employees, citizens, vendors and business partners.
He said, “Safeguarding such data is not only a technical necessity but also an ethical responsibility and statutory obligation. Data Privacy Day is more than compliance with regulations, it is about protecting individual dignity, sustaining public trust and preserving the credibility of the organization.”
Sukrit Ghosh, Director, DSCI reinforced that with the implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, data privacy has become a legal, ethical and governance imperative.
He elaborated that the Act requires personal data to be collected for lawful purposes, protected through appropriate safeguards and accessed strictly on a need-to-know basis.
The event reinforced NHPC’s commitment to data protection, privacy awareness and adherence to statutory obligations in the digital era.
