Documentary on daily wagers released

SRINAGAR, Feb 2: A documentary highlighting the hardships and struggles of daily wage workers in J&K, titled ‘Gumnaam Mehnat Khamosh Dard’, was released today at Tagore Hall here.
Released by the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) and produced in association with Yemerzal Youth Club, the documentary captures the working conditions, financial insecurity and emotional stress faced by daily wagers.
It also portrays their resilience and contribution to essential services.
Veteran trade union leaders and employee representatives, including Farooq Ahmad Trali, Mohiuddin Muntazir, Wajahat Hussain Durrani, Shabir Ahmad Longoo, Mohammed Suleman Butt, Mir Faiyaz Ahmad, Shabir Ahmad Bhatt, Shaukat Ahmad Mir, Ghulam Nabi Vani, Mohammed Yusuf Khan, Malik Mushtaq, Shuhaib Munshi, Khalid Rafiq Bhatt, Ghulam Mohammad Hamdard, Mohd Shafi Shada, Sajad Ahmad Parray, Ghulam Mustafa Khan, Gh Rasool Mir and Nazir Ahmad Harboo, attended the program.
The proceedings were conducted by stage secretary Ghulam Nabi Wani.
The film team, led by director Mufeed, was felicitated with Certificates of Appreciation for bringing the issues of daily wage workers into public focus.
Scriptwriter Wajahat Hussain was also honoured for his contribution.
Representatives of Yemerzal Youth Club were presented with a memento in recognition of their collaboration and support, in association with the EJAC.
Speakers said daily wage workers form the backbone of essential services but continue to remain among the most neglected sections of the workforce.
They said the documentary aims to draw the attention of policymakers and the public towards the need for welfare measures and regularisation of daily wagers.
The program concluded with a call for ensuring job security, dignity and justice for daily wage workers.
