RAJOURI, Feb 3: Residents of Kheora area in Rajouri town today staged a strong protest demonstration, demanding the provision of an alternative route, blocking the road leading to Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri for about an hour.
The protesters alleged that the road, which has been in regular use by local residents for decades, is now being blocked due to the ongoing construction of a guest house meant for attendants of patients admitted to GMC Rajouri. They said the blockage has caused severe inconvenience to hundreds of families who depend on this road to reach their homes.
Women also participated in the protest, expressed strong resentment, stating that the only accessible route to their residences has been obstructed, making daily movement extremely difficult.
The protesters clarified that they have no objection to the construction of the much-needed guesthouse, but emphasized that public inconvenience should not be caused without first providing a viable alternative route.
They further pointed out that students commuting to Rajouri PG College also use the same road, and blocking such an important link without any alternative arrangement is unjustified and unfair to the general public.
During the protest, Naib Tehsildar Rajouri, Sham Lal, reached the spot and interacted with the agitating residents. He assured them that the land would be measured and necessary steps would be taken to provide an alternative road at the earliest.
He also instructed the concerned department and the contractor executing the guesthouse project to immediately identify and arrange an alternate route to ensure that the public does not face further inconvenience. After receiving the assurance, the protesters peacefully dispersed and called off their demonstration.
