JAMMU, Feb 4: Dr Anisha Tiwari, a leading small animal practitioner from Jammu and Kashmir, has brought international recognition to India by securing the prestigious Peter Ihrke 2026 Scholarship awarded by the World Association for Veterinary Dermatology (WAVD).
The scholarship, regarded as one of the most coveted global honours in veterinary dermatology, was officially declared today. Dr Tiwari, who runs Suvidha Vet Clinic in Jammu along with her husband, Dr Bhanu Kirti Khajuria, has been at the forefront of advancing small animal dermatology in India.
In 2016, Dr Anisha established the country’s first dedicated small animal dermatology clinic, marking a significant milestone for veterinary healthcare in the region. Over a professional career spanning more than 13 years, she has played a transformative role in elevating standards of dermatological care for companion animals through innovative clinical practices, structured training programmes, and sustained global engagement.
Her professional excellence has been recognized through multiple international continuing education grants, enabling advanced training in Australia, China, Liverpool, Boston, Sweden and Hong Kong. Dr Tiwari has also represented India at major international veterinary conferences, where she delivered lectures and presented her clinical work in countries including Sweden, Hong Kong, Thailand and Spain.
At the national level, she has been equally influential, conducting lectures and hands-on workshops for veterinarians across India over the years. Through these initiatives, she has mentored and trained numerous practitioners, contributing to the growth of a new generation of specialists in small animal dermatology.
Reacting to the honour, Dr Tiwari said that the scholarship represents a significant achievement not only for her personally but also for the field of small animal dermatology in India, highlighting the ability of regional practices to gain recognition on the global stage.
With this achievement, Dr Tiwari joins an elite international network of veterinary dermatology leaders and is expected to further strengthen and advance dermatological care for animals in India and beyond.
