National Conference MLA Tanveer Sadiq dubbed BJP communal and anti to a particular religion while Independent MLA Shabir Ahmed Kulley alleged that Maharaja Hari Singh wanted J&K to align with Pakistan and the Maharaja rule deprived common masses of access to basic facilities.
Taking serious cognizance of the alleged provocative comment by Tanveer Sadiq, all BJP MLAs stood from their seat and registered their strong protest leading to intervention of the Chair.
Amid shouting of slogans by the BJP members, Leader of Opposition (LOP) Sunil Sharma demanded that the NC MLA should withdraw his controversial remark and seek apology.
While all BJP MLAs were angrily protesting, a few NC MLAs were seen supporting Tanveer Sadiq and his accusations. The commotion led to brief disruption of the house proceedings.
Accusing the BJP of pursuing divisive agenda and being anti to a particularly community, the NC MLA said this was for the first time in history that there is not even a single Muslim Minister in the Central Government and no Muslim MP in the ruling party.
“I know they (BJP MLAs) are individually good, but their party is so bad that it turns them bad,” he said.
Alleging that the controversy surrounding Shri Mata vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence speaks of BJP’s hatred towards a particular community, Tanveer Sadiq sought to know whether the opposition party will also demand shutting up proposed National Law University if Muslim candidates get admission there. He dubbed BJP as handle of a wood-cutter.
As Tanveer Sadiq repeatedly attacked BJP while participating in discussion on Lt Governor’s address, frequent commotions were witnessed in the House leading to interventions of the Chair.
Mubarak Gul, who was in the Chair of Speaker, efficiently handled the situation and expunged Tanveer Sadiq’s particularly remark against BJP, which had triggered the major trouble.
Earlier, Independent MLA from Shopian, Shabir Ahmed Kulley also invited sharp reaction from BJP MLAs after he claimed that the Maharaja (Hari Singh) wanted to align with Pakistan and it was only because of Sheikh Mohd Abdullah that J&K became part of India.
Balwant Singh Mankotia, Shagun Parihar and others BJP MLAs strongly objected over Kulley’s remark and asserted that history was witness to the Maharaja’s role in signing instrument of accession.
“Stop talking bad about our Maharaja and correct your knowledge of history,’ shouted Shagun Parihar. Some other BJP MLAs were also heard raising objection to Kulley’s remark.
However, the Shopian MLA did not stop and quipped that they (BJP ) should also not speak badly about Sheikh Mohd Abdullah who, he claimed, never compromised for power and even faced imprisonment because of his principles.
“During Maharaja’s rule, we had no access to education and even for reading or writing a letter, people were left with no option other than to approach a Kashmiri Pandit,” he continued.
