Sub-Zero Nights Continue, No Major Snowfall Expected In J&K Till Feb 16

SRINAGAR, Feb 6: Night temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir continued to remain below normal, with all weather stations in the Kashmir Valley recording sub-zero minimums, even as the Meteorological Department predicted largely dry weather over the coming days.
According to the department, no major spell of rain or snowfall is expected across the union Territory till February 16
MeT said indications suggest a possibility of light snowfall at a few higher reaches of north and central Kashmir on February 6, mainly towards late evening or night. However, February 7 and 8 are expected to remain generally dry across most parts of the region.
On February 9, light rain or snow may occur at isolated higher altitudes during the night hours. This will be followed by generally cloudy conditions on February 10, with a chance of light rain or snow accompanied by gusty winds at many places.
The weather on February 11 is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with light rain or snow possible at scattered locations. Thereafter, February 12 and 13 are forecast to remain dry.
Cloud cover is likely to increase again on February 14, with a possibility of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches, while February 15 and 16 are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy without any significant precipitation.
“Overall no major rain or snow forecast over the entire J&K till February 16,” MeT said.
Meanwhile, night temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir continued to remain below normal, with all weather stations in the Valley recording sub-zero minimums
According to MeT, minimum night temperatures stayed 1-2 degrees Celsius below normal at many places in the Kashmir division, while scattered locations in the Jammu division also recorded temperatures 1-2 degrees below average.
In Kashmir, the hill resort of Sonamarg in Ganderbal district emerged as the coldest place, recording a minimum temperature of minus 8.3 degrees Celsius. Another popular resort, Pahalgam in Anantnag district, registered a low of minus 7.5 degrees Celsius, while the ski resort of Gulmarg recorded minus 7.8 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar city also remained under the grip of cold, with the minimum temperature settling at minus 2.5 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu division, Bhaderwah emerged as the coldest place with a minimum temperature of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius. (Agencies)
