After the Question Hour, Sharma, who represents Katra Mata Vaishno Devi constituency, wanted to know fate of the adjournment motion moved by him in the Assembly.
The Speaker said he has rejected the motion as only the issue of recent occurrence can be taken up through adjournment motion but the MLA’s issues date back to 2019. He said the MLA has also admitted that he has already raised the issue in the House.
“If the issue is serious, the Government should look into it,’’ Rather said.
Baldev Sharma, however, strongly advocated for the formulation of a fresh, comprehensive, and humane rehabilitation policy for mule operators, pithu (porters), palki operators, and mule owners, whose livelihoods depend entirely on pilgrimage-related activities.
He emphasized that these workers have been serving pilgrims selflessly for decades and are an integral part of the yatra ecosystem.
Sharma pointed out that the existing policies and arrangements are inadequate and do not address the growing socio-economic challenges faced by these service providers in view of changing infrastructure and administrative decisions.
