KISHTWAR, Feb 9: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Kishtwar unit, here today staged a protest demonstration against the Jammu University for its failure to introduce basic PG courses at the University Campus Kishtwar.
The protest was led by Radhika Aryan, State joint secretary ABVP and Vinay Aryan, District convener, ABVP Kishtwar and the protesters raised slogans in favour of their demand.
Addressing the gathering, Radhika Aryan said that every year more than 1000 students pass from the four different degree colleges of Kishtwar but due to the absence of PG courses, they are either forced to discontinue their studies or to travel nearly 250 kilometres to pursue higher education outside the district.
She added that this injustice with the students from remote, hilly and economically weaker backgrounds reflects discriminatory attitude of the University administration towards the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinay Aryan claimed that despite the presence of three MLAs from Kishtwar, the district has failed to receive even basic higher education facilities.
He said that if the demand for immediate introduction of basic PG courses at the University Campus Kishtwar is not fulfilled soon then ABVP will intensify the protests and will launch a more aggressive agitation in the coming days.
The ABVP leaders demanded immediate intervention by the Jammu University authorities.
