AHMEDABAD, Feb 9: South Africa defeated Canada by 57 runs in their opening match of the T20 World Cup here on Monday.
Skipper Aiden Markram made a 32-ball 59 as South Africa posted 213 for four and then limited Canada to 156 for 8 in 20 overs.
Apart from Markram, Ryan Rickelton (33), Quinton de Kock (25), Tristan Stubbs (34) and David Miller (39) also made useful contributions after being asked to take first strike.
Navneet Dhaliwal (64) was the top scorer for Canada.
Lungi Ngidi (4/31) was the most successful bowler for SA.

Bennet, bowlers power Zimbabwe to eight-wicket win over Oman
The highly rated Brian Bennett showed his class on the big stage with an unbeaten 36-ball 48 to complement the bowlers’ excellent display and power Zimbabwe to an eight-wicket win over Oman in their T20 World Cup match here on Monday.
Opting to bowl, Blessing Muzarabani wreaked havoc with the new ball before his pace-bowling colleague Richard Ngarava joined him in the demolition job to skittle out Oman for 103.

Oman: 103 all out in 19.5 overs (Vinayak Shukla 28; Richard Ngarava 3/17, Blessing Muzarabani 3/16, Brad Evans 3/18).
Zimbabwe: 106 for 2 in 13.3 overs (Brian Bennett 48 not out; Sufyan Mehmood 2/12).

The duo of Muzarabani (3/16 in 4 overs) and Richard Ngarava (3/17 in 4 overs) were the most successful bowlers for Zimbabwe as Oman put up an ordinary display with the bat. They were in danger of being bowled out for a much lesser total after slipping to 27 for five in the seventh over.

Scotland beat Italy by 73 runs
George Munsey struck a half-century and shared a century opening stand with Michael Jones as Scotland defeated debutants Italy by 73 runs in a T20 World Cup match here on Monday.
Munsey hammered 84 off 54 balls while Jones contributed 37 off 30 deliveries, the duo laying the foundation with a 126-run opening partnership as Scotland posted a strong 207 for 4.

In reply, Italy showed plenty of heart, with Ben Manenti clobbering a 31-ball 52 and brother Harry scoring 37 as the pair shared a 73-run stand for the fourth wicket. However, they were ultimately undone by inexperience and were bowled out for 134 in 16.4 overs.
Scotland off-spinner Michael Leask took 4 wickets for 17 runs to destroy Italy’s batting.
Italy suffered an injury blow when skipper Wayne Madsen was injured while fielding after diving to stop runs in the fourth over of Scotland’s innings. The 42-year-old was in visible pain as he walked off the field, his left arm supported by a makeshift sling fashioned from his jersey.(PTI)
