JAMMU/UDHAMPUR, Feb 10: Fencing action in Jammu & Kashmir witnessed a busy week with the two-day 19th Jammu District Fencing Championship 2025-26 commenced at the Indoor Fencing Hall, MA Stadium, Jammu, while the 15th Udhampur District Fencing Championship concluded at Udhampur.
The Jammu championship, organised by the Jammu District Fencing Association under the aegis of the J&K Fencing Association, has attracted over 130 fencers from schools and clubs across the district. On the opening day, 75 fencers competed in Under-12, Under-14 and Under-17 categories, with Army School Akhnoor dominating by winning nine medals.
Gold medallists included Samrat Singh (Foil Boys), Mritunjay Singh Charak (Epee Boys), Ruhan Gupta (Sabre Boys), Shivanya Sharma (Foil Girls), Aayra (Epee Girls), Geetanshi Sharma (Sabre Girls), Lakshay Singh (Foil Boys), Hridhaan Grover (Epee Boys), Bipinjot Singh (Sabre Boys), Mayanshi Kashyap (Foil Girls), Chandni Sharma (Epee Girls), Shrija Bali (Sabre Girls), Harnidh Singh (Sabre Boys), Kawaldeep Kour (Foil Girls) and Tanishka (Epee Girls).
Meanwhile, the 15th Udhampur District Fencing Championship, organised by the Udhampur District Fencing Association under JKFA, concluded with around 160 players from seven institutes, including Army Public School Udhampur, Government Schools, India Kids School, and other academies competing in 30 events across Under-8 to senior categories.
The Udhampur event was graced by chief guest Romesh Chandra Mishra, DYSSO Udhampur, along with Col (Retd.) Balwant Singh, President, Mohd Tariq, General Secretary and dignitaries Arvind Kumar, Jaswinder Singh, Vikas Sharma, Sanjeev Sharma, Deepak Sharma, Sourabh Thapa, Neetika Sharma, Kulbir Singh and Vickey Sharma. All participants took a pledge under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, and Jatin Sethi was felicitated. Matches were supervised by Rahul Prashar, Sahil, Manjot, Diksha and Rajan Prashar, and Imperial Fencing Sports Academy clinched the Overall Championship Trophy.
Both championships highlighted discipline, sportsmanship, and the growing fencing culture in Jammu & Udhampur districts.
