JAMMU, Feb 11: Prof (Dr) Vivak M Arya, an eminent soil scientist at SKUAST-Jammu was conferred with the prestigious Fellow of SIDAVES Academy (FSA) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to soil science, climate change research, and natural resource management.
The honour was bestowed during the SIDAVES Fellows Meeting held at the Institute of Biotechnology, SKUAST-Jammu, Chatha.
The award ceremony was presided over by Dr U C Sharma, former National Coordinator (NATP), ICAR, and Dr Jag Paul Sharma, former Director Research and Registrar, SKUAST-Jammu and president of SIDAVES Foundation.
Prof Arya was recognised for his sustained and impactful work in the fields of climate change, soil and water conservation and resource management.
His efforts in promoting real-time nitrogen management through the use of the Leaf Colour Chart (LCC) have significantly contributed to enhancing nutrient use efficiency and sustainable farming practices.
Currently, Prof Arya is leading several high-impact research projects funded by DBT, DST and JKST&IC.
These projects focus on technological interventions, capacity building, climate-smart agriculture, soil greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes, and associated microbiome studies.
Established in 2017, the SIDAVES Academy has been actively addressing critical issues related to climate change, natural resource degradation and environmental sustainability through research, advocacy and capacity-building initiatives at both local and national levels.
