JAMMU, Feb 11: The police today foiled a strong protest march of the daily rated employees of PHE/Jal Shakti Department towards Civil Secretariat here today.
A large number of PHE workers under the banner of PHE Workers United Front assembled in front of the office of Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti Department at BC Road, PHE Complex, Jammu today and started their protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans in support of their demands and also against the Government for ignoring their issues.
Led by senior office bearers including- Ravi Hans, Rajinder Singh Taj, Hoshiar Singh, Navdeep Singh, Mohan Lal and others, the protesting workers shouted loud slogans in front of the office of Chief Engineer for some time and then carrying banners moved towards Civil Secretariat to conduct Gherao of the Legislative Assembly. Many workers from Samba, Kathua, Udhampur , Reasi and other districts joined the protest march.
While addressing gathering, Ravi Hans and Rajinder Taj demanded that all the daily wagers be regularized without any delay. They said National Conference had promised their regularization but is now just buying time. Even the committee constituted by the Chief Minister was given six months time but even after one year its report has not made public. It has not been brought under public domain.
They said the daily wagers had high hope in this Budget but they were disappointed. Now Chief Minister has again given assurance but at least committees report should be made public, they demanded.
The marching daily wagers were stopped by a strong contingent of police near Indira Chowk, They had minor scuffle with cops but the police did not allow them to move ahead. Some workers managed to reach up to the park near Civil Secretariat and held protest demonstration there for some time, but the police raised strong barricades and foiled their march towards Assembly. The workers are demanding regularization and release of their pending wages.
