Cong empowered women in country: JKPCC chief

JAMMU, Feb 12: JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra has said that Congress always empowered women in political field and every sphere of life and always stands for due share to women in all aspects of life.
Addressing a gathering of Mahila Congress at PCC office here today PCC chief said  that   Congress empowered women in every sphere of life and encouraged them in the political and democratic system in the country . He said that Party gave first Woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to this country, who emerged as the strong leader in the world.
The first woman President Pritibha Devi Patil and first Speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar belonged to Congress Party, Karra said.
He said Congress ensured 1/3rd share to women in Panchayat Raj institution by 73rd and 74th amendment in the country. He said  Congress passed the bill in the Rajya Sabha to give 1/3rd reservation to the women in the legislatures and it is committed to ensure  their due participation in the political sphere of the country.
Working president Raman Bhalla said that Congress ensured due participation of women in every sphere of life. The women play a very significant role in the building the society and the country nd they need to come forward to take the country forward.
He said Congress wants women to play significant role in politics in order to shape the future of the society in which women have equal role.
He said that congress ensured incorporation of the 73rd and 74th amendment into the J&K Panchayat Raj system whereby 1/3rd representatives from women category were elected  in all three tier Panchayat Raj system in J&K were elected.
Mahila Cong president  Shameema Raina said that  Congress party believes in strengthening the people and is committed to equitable development of the J&K. She described Congress party as the plate form for  the encouragement and upliftment of the  women who want to contribute in the service of the society.
Several women leaders including  Asha Chandan, Shabnum Jain from Kishtwar, Sangeeta from Talab Tillo and many others joined  the Congress Party on the occasion.
