SRINAGAR, Feb 12: Daily wagers and casual labourers from various Government departments today protested here against the delay in regularisation of their services and demanded a clear job policy.
Scores of workers, many accompanied by their children, gathered at Sher-i-Kashmir Park in Srinagar and raised slogans in favour of their demands, carrying placards that read “We want justice”.

The protesters said many among them have been working in different departments for over two decades but continue on temporary status without job security, fixed pay structure or service benefits.
Addressing the gathering, Sajad Parray said daily wagers have consistently discharged their duties in essential public services but remain without regular status. “Employees never protested with their children during previous governments. Today we are forced to bring our children because we fear they will face the same plight as us,” he said.
He added that the present government has a strong mandate and should use it to resolve the long-pending issue. He urged the government to frame and implement a comprehensive, time-bound regularisation policy applicable across departments.
The protest remained peaceful, with workers saying they would continue their struggle until a formal decision was taken.
