SRINAGAR, Feb 12: Chairperson of the Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board and Minister of State, Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi today laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of a ladies’ sabaat and inaugurated newly constructed kiosks at the revered shrine of Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib (RA) in Srinagar.
Dr Andrabi visited the shrine, paid obeisance and prayed for peace and prosperity for all. She was accompanied by Executive Magistrate Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin, officials of the Waqf Board and members of civil society.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Andrabi said that several developmental and facilitation measures have been undertaken at the shrine over the past three years, bringing visible improvements to the historic site. “We are committed to upgrading facilities at all shrines under the Waqf Board. The reconstruction of the ladies’ sabaat is a much-needed step to ensure comfort and convenience for women devotees,” she said.
She added that the new sabaat would be designed in harmony with the serene surroundings of the shrine and assured that the project would be completed within the next few months.
Later, Dr Andrabi inaugurated newly constructed kiosks along the main stairway leading to the shrine. The kiosks replace old makeshift structures that had posed safety concerns and detracted from the aesthetic appeal of the entrance. The new structures aim to provide secure and organized spaces for small vendors while enhancing the overall ambience of the shrine complex.
Waqf Board administrators, Imams and Khateebs were also present on the occasion.
