JAMMU, Feb 12: The long wait has finally over for the outstanding sportspersons from different disciplines as the Jammu and Kashmir Government has notified the provisional selection list for their appointment as gazetted and non-gazetted officers in the Department of Youth Services and Sports.

As per the notification Number-JK(YSS) of 2026, Dated: 11.02.2026, issued by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Youth Services and Sports Department, on the merit position of the candidates as per their achievements, the Provisional Selection List of the candidates for five posts of Chief Coach in Gazetted cadre for the year 2022 and 217 posts of Instructor in Non-gazetted cadre for the calendar year 2014-2022 for appointment of outstanding sportspersons in the Government service in terms of S.O. 12 of 2022 read with S.O 412 of 2023, have been notified.
The selection process covers applications received for the calendar years 2014 to 2022 and includes appointments to five posts of Chief Coach in the Gazetted cadre and 217 posts of Instructor in the Non-Gazetted cadre. The notification follows a detailed scrutiny and verification process carried out by the Scrutiny Committee constituted under Government Order No. 1247-JK(GAD) of 2023.
According to the official statement, the Scrutiny Committee meticulously examined the applications and prepared a general merit list based strictly on the achievements of the candidates in national and international sports events. The merit list was then placed before the Selection Committee on 5 July 2024. Following this, a public notification of the provisional merit list was issued on 19 July 2024 to invite objections, if any, from applicants. All received objections were reviewed and disposed of in accordance with the rules.
The Selection Committee, in its meeting held on 7 October 2024, ratified the provisional selection list on the recommendation of the Scrutiny Committee and advised the Youth Services & Sports Department to seek the approval of the competent authority. The department has now formally released the provisional selection list as Annexure “A” and “B” in the notification.
The department clarified that the selection is purely provisional and subject to verification of certificates and documents at a later stage, if required. Candidates may submit objections within seven days of the notification via email at jkyss-deptt@jk.gov.in. No claims will be entertained after this period.
The notification also states that seven posts have been kept reserved in accordance with directions from the Central Administrative Tribunal, with one post reserved for upper age relaxation. Final appointments will be confirmed after disposal of any objections, ensuring transparency and fairness in the selection process.
However, as per the notification, five Gazetted posts have been earmarked, including one from the Shooting discipline and four from Pencak Silat.
