UDHAMPUR, Feb 12: Former Councilor Preeti Khajuria today led a strong protest against the Udhampur Municipal Council’s actions of crushing the vending carts of poor people in the town.
“The Udhampur Municipal Council is continuously crushing the carts of poor families, causing increasing hardship for them,” she said while addressing the protest at Venus Chowk.
Preeti Khajuria said that the Municipal bodies’ main functions include sanitation, water supply, road and streetlight maintenance, birth and death registration, waste management, granting building permits, and formulating local development plans, but the Udhampur Municipal Council is only crushing carts of poor people.
“The Government has no jobs to offer, and those who are working on loans are being crushed,” she said, adding that during this Municipal action, a handicapped woman’s cart was also broken.
Preeti Khajuria said that the Director of Urban Local Bodies should also see how his officers are working. “There is no urban development plan. Udhampur has been turned into a garbage dump,” she said and demanded CBI investigation of every Municipal Council to identify and punish the corrupt officers.
