JAMMU, Feb 12: As a part of joint one-day Nationwide strike call, various Trade Unions across the UT of Jammu and Kashmir held protests and rallies on Thursday.
State Committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Jammu & Kashmir, organised a massive protest rally in Jammu. The rally started from Maharaja Hari Singh Park, passed through Gumat Bazar, and culminated at Indira Chowk, Jammu, where a strong protest demonstration was held.
The rally was led by MY Tarigami, MLA and president, State Committee of CITU, and was participated in by workers from different sectors, trade union activists, and representatives of various mass organizations. Addressing the gathering, Tarigarni strongly criticised the Union Government for pushing through four Labour Codes, which he said are blatantly anti-worker and aimed at benefitting Corporate interests at the cost of workers’ rights.
He demanded that the government must immediately repeal these Labour Codes, which dilute job security, collective bargaining, and social security. He also highlighted the dangerous implications of other proposed policies and legislations, including the G-RAM-G Bill, which seeks to weaken and virtually do away with the guaranteed employment provided to rural households under the MNREGA Act.
Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee of Trade Unions (JKCCTU) held a protest demonstration today at different places throughout Jammu and Kashmir in support today’s strike called by Central Trade Unions especially AITUC and AISGEC.
A large number of employees and workers held a protest rally at Press Club Jammu today under the banner of JKCCTU demanded the repealing of anti- labour four labour codes imposed by the Central Govt and highlighted other burning demands like regularization and wage policy for all temporary workers, restoration of old pension scheme, ensuring of full democratic and trade union rights, withdrawal of electricity amendment Bill 2026.
Addressing the rally Mohd Maqbool National secretary AISGEC and president JKCCTU said that the four labour codes imposed by the Central Govt. Instead of 29 labour laws which were giving protection to the workers and employees have been imposed at the behest of Corporates and business tycoons. This has created an alarming situation which needs to be opposed with full might.
LIC employees of Jammu and Kashmir under the banner of Northern Zone Insurance Employees Association, also observed one day strike across the UT of Jammu and Kashmir today, opposing the Central move. The employees leaders said that Govt should roll back on anti-employee decisions.
Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation and Punjab National Bank Staff Union J&K also held protests in their respective offices across the region. PNB employees held main protest at Bahu PLaza branch and various other locations in Kashmir and Jammu.
