ACB arrests ASI for accepting bribe of Rs 8,000

JAMMU: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police Station Bemina, Srinagar, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.
According to ACB spokesperson, the Bureau received a written complaint alleging that the accused officer, a resident of Newa Pulwama and Investigating Officer (IO) of FIR No. 88/2025 of Police Station Bemina, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant despite the case having already been challaned before the competent court. The officer had allegedly threatened to harass the complainant if the demand was not met.
Following receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification which prima facie substantiated the allegations. Subsequently, Case FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and investigation was initiated.
“A trap team was constituted and successfully apprehended the accused public servant red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount. The accused was immediately taken into custody, and the bribe money was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses,” spokesperson said adding that further investigation into the case is underway.
