ACB arrests ASI for accepting Rs 8,000 bribe

SRINAGAR, Feb 13: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police posted at Police Station Bemina for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant.
An official spokesperson said the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, a resident of Newa Pulwama and Investigating Officer of FIR No. 88/2025 of Police Station Bemina, had demanded illegal gratification despite the case having already been challaned before the competent court.
He said the complainant alleged that the officer threatened to harass him if the bribe was not paid.
After receiving the complaint, the official spokesperson said, ACB conducted a discreet verification which prima facie established the allegations.
Subsequently, he said, a case FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up.
During the investigation, a trap team arrested the accused officer red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 8,000 from the complainant, he said, adding that accordingly the accused was taken into custody and the bribe money was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses.
Further investigation in the case is underway, he added.
